Secondary Courses

In the first two years, while emphasis remains on the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and Christian Living, students all study a broadly-based curriculum. Our well-qualified teachers are able to work with small classes, encourage both academic excellence and critical thinking, and in equipping students to take responsibility for their own learning and behaviour. Giving them the mental and emotional tools to become discerning, motivated life long learners.

We are dedicated to having students achieve to their highest ability, especially when it comes to attainment in the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) and scholarship levels.

From Year 11 on, the course options broaden substantially and the school is always looking for opportunities for students to follow desired pathways even if this is not by way of the standard classroom delivery. Where there are insufficient numbers to offer a course or there is a specialised training request, the school utilises three other alternative sources of service.

  • Correspondence School courses with supervision from designated teachers.
  • Online Distance Education utilising latest technologies including video conferencing and interactive whiteboards. The school is a member of CantaTech, a group of schools in Canterbury, which links teachers and students by way of broadband connections.
  • S.T.A.R Programmes. The purpose of the Secondary Tertiary Alignment Resource is to enable senior students to study tertiary courses that are not normally available at secondary schools. Such courses undertaken in the past at RNLS include: Journalism, Psychology, Electro-technology, Tourism, Automotive Engineering, Commercial Airline Pilot, Computer Programming, Customer Relations and Childcare. The School contracts with providers such as Polytechnics and courses may be done partly by Correspondence, with a work-site component, full-time or short term.

Because we believe in having students who will be well rounded individuals, we ensure that built into the weekly programme are periods dedicated to Christian studies, house group activities, assembly and sports and arts/cultural options.

All the students have the advantage at Rangiora New Life School of being in small classes especially when it comes to core subjects and specialised courses. With a positive working atmosphere and application by the students there is every reason for high levels of success.

Happy is the person who discovers wisdom,
a person who gains discernment: gaining her
is more rewarding than silver, more profitable than gold.
She is beyond the price of pearls, nothing you
could covet is her equal.”

Proverbs 3:13 - 14
