Student Leaders

Opportunities for Leadership & Achievement

SCHOOL COUNCIL

The school has an active school council made up of representatives from each level Years 6 - 13. This group under the guidance of the Head of Secondary, is responsible for liaising between form classes and the group on matters of student interest, concerns and suggestions, organising special events and making representation to the staff and Board on student matters.

HOUSE GROUPS

The School is organised into four Houses, each of which is led by two senior (secondary) and two junior (Primary) students. Houses meet for a wide variety of activities and are a vital component behind sporting and Cultural events within the school. Each house is organised by four teachers.

HEADS

Each year a head girl and boy are chosen in recognition of their leadership aptitude. They take an active part in such areas as assemblies and school wide events.

STRIPES / PRIZEGIVING

The school has a system that recognises students by way of stripes; usually in the form of a metal badge worn on the lapel of the blazer or polar fleece jacket. These are given for:

Service to the school e.g. Council, Librarians
Leadership Roles e.g. Head Girl, Red House Captain
Sport and Culture involvement and achievement e.g. Netball Rep, Debating Team

At the end of the Year we recognize achievement by way of a school prizegiving evening, a compulsory community event for all families of the school.

ASSESSMENT AND REPORTING

We consider the ongoing careful assessment and reporting of student achievement and progress vital to the success of our students. Our school families value these regular reports and times to talk directly with the teachers. Near the beginning of each new year a “Meet the Teacher” evening is held. Reports on students’ progress are given out three times per year for secondary and twice per year for primary students. There are a series of parent interviews during the year and the opportunity to contact the teacher anytime for an appointment. At senior college level parents are kept closely informed of NCEA assessments, achievements and progress by such means as email.

UNIFORM

The school is a uniform school. We believe that the wearing of a uniform promotes a sense of belonging and unity and care for ones appearance. All clothing should be neat and tidy and named clearly. The school uniform has to be worn properly and in a complete manner. Uniform lists are available from the office or on the website if you need to check.
